Couple or Family Therapy

Procedure Description:
An interactive therapeutic experience for all participants.

What To Expect:
To have an agreed-upon agenda and goals for each session.
To have a structured interactive experience to improve communication, psychodynamics and cooperation among family members.
To learn to use and appreciate honest differences in styles of thinking in order to negotiate resolution of conflicts and enhance family relationships.

Procedure Description:
Prescription of Psychotropic Medications

What To Expect:
You will receive integrated care, combining psychotherapy with appropriately selected psychotropic pharmaceuticals known to be effective in relieving specific symptoms.

We usually begin with a low test dose and trial period with brand name (non-generic) samples to avoid any severe allergic reactions and possibly ineffective or expensive prescriptions. Package inserts explaining possible side-effects of newly prescribed medications are also provided. An exact NCR copy of every prescription ever written for you in this office is kept on file for future reference. However, there is no guarantee that any medication and/or psychotherapy will produce a desired result.

Once you are stabilized on an effective maintenance dose, your response must be monitored periodically in the office, at least once every three months. This also permits maintenance psychotherapy which has been shown to be effective in preventing relapse. Otherwise you will become an inactive patient and prescriptions cannot be renewed.


Procedures

Individual Medical Psychotherapy

Procedure Description:
Insight-oriented and/or supportive therapy techniques.

What To Expect:
To follow a specific goal-oriented, individualized treatment plan using psychodynamic interactive techniques designed to improve insight, communication, problem solving ability, self-esteem and an understanding of both the causes and effects of presenting symptoms.

Goals in therapy include: (1) Relieve distressing symptoms; (2) Initially develop and maintain an interactive support system; (3) Improve coping and social skills, stress tolerance and creativity; (4) Efficiently increase independence for the patient and decrease dependence on the therapist and others (see Dr. Miley's article).


Staff Information


Our office manager, Mrs. Marietta Chaky provides service to Dr. Miley and his patients with vital signs, lab orders, confidentiality issues, correspondence and other office procedures. She answers patient questions, schedules appointments, completes and files insurance claims and more. A Practical Nurse trained in crisis management, she deals with insurance problems, and is experienced in community and customer service. A certified pastoral counselor and lecturer on foster care issues, she is also the compliance officer for this practice and is responsible for adherance by all employees to its Code of Conduct. She is also a volunteer pastoral counselor on Marion County's Community Crisis Response Team.
